Guides
The face of Fort Scratchley. Meet our visitors and escort tours through our tunnels. Share the stories of this important historic site as you guide them through our buildings and grounds.
Workshop & gun crew
Our workshop and gun crew volunteers help with minor maintenance and restoration of the Fort but also support our gun crews who fire and maintain Fort Scratchley’s historic guns.
Shop assistants
Help manage visitor bookings for Fort Scratchley and the sale of souvenirs and confectionary. You’ll also be helping visitors learn about Fort Scratchley’s amazing history.

Faces of the Fort
Fort Scratchley has been the home to many different personalities over the years, and this project aims to capture some of the stories and share with all.
Wayne, Tour Guide
Wayne is a guide with a passion for Fort Scratchley that is truly infectious, he has been volunteering now for over 2 years.
Steve, Tour Guide
A passionate volunteer guide and has been with Fort Scratchley Historical Society Newcastle for over 2 years. He saw an opportunity and seized it and hasn’t looked back.
Steve, Shop Manager
Steve is a Committee Member and the Shop Manager. He has been with the Fort Scratchley Historical Society for over 6 years.
Ron, Curator
Ron is a Committee Member and the Forts all-knowing Curator, he’s a wealth of knowledge and has been with the Fort Scratchley Historical Society for over 15 years.
Rod, Head Guide
Rod is a Committee Member and Head Guide. He has been with Fort Scratchley Historical Society Newcastle NSW for over 14 years.
Carol, Gun Crew
Carol has been with Fort Scratchley Historical Society for over 14 years. She is a Life Member who commenced her volunteer journey through cooking BBQs and is now on the Gun Crew.
Clay, Workshop Supervisor & Gun Crew
Clay is a Committee Member, Gun Crew and Workshop Team Leader. The multi-talented Clay has been with Fort Scratchley Historical Society for over 12 years.
Mary, Office Manager
Mary is the hard working Office Manager, and a Life Member. She has been with the Fort Scratchley Historical Society for over 15 years and also has a long family connection with the Fort.
David, Assistant Curator
